More info

Sterling silver teapot decorated with Art nouveau patterns in relief, such as flowers, leaves, and dragonflies.
At the end of the 19th century, many artists have been inspired by the profusion of flora and fauna under the influence of Japonism and Symbolism. Some patterns such as dragonflies, symbols of a "deceptive and dangerous beauty" because they are carnivorous, were widely used. This insect with its long, flexible body in iridescent colors and four long, transparent wings inspired poems and compositions and served as decoration on various objects, mostly enameled glass vases created by the famous Emile Gallé.

This 1900 teapot wears French sterling silver hallmarks and the silversmith's stamp beneath.
