The piece is covered with a deep green glaze with amber and brown tones, characteristic of the majolica production of Wedgwood in the second half of the 19th century. Its form is a fine example of the Neo-Renaissance Revival style developed by the manufactory. The foot formed by three dolphins is closely related to that of a Wedgwood candlestick held at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London (WE.9807-2014). The base, impressed with the manufactory's name and the letter N, dates the piece to 1885.
